A mudlark who found a rare Roman lamp while walking on the Thames foreshore in his lunch break revealed that he almost threw it away because he thought it was a fake.

Alan Suttie's find is now going on show at the Museum of London along with other objects found by amateur treasure hunters in the capital.

The 67-year-old artist was at a meeting at St Paul's Cathedral when he popped down to the river near Old Billingsgate Market and stumbled on the find.
